ADULT: Up to 8mm this seemingly black and white jumping spider needs care to identify. The face is white and both sexes are similar with abdominal chevrons sometimes indistinct. Males have a copper-like gloss over their entire body whereas females are more brown in appearance with more prominent markings. BEHAVIOUR: Courtship is energetic and the female makes her egg sac in dried rolled up leaves. HABITAT: In low vegetation near damp areas. Wet heathland is a particularly favoured habitat. DISTRIBUTION: Widespread in southern Britain. PERIOD: Best found throughout the summer months.
